Cosa può fare la progettazione per aiutare l'integrazione, lo sviluppo personale e l'accoglienza dei rifugiati? What Design Can Do (WDCD), UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) e IKEA Foundation lanciano il concorso di progettazione "What Design Can Do Refugee Challenge", aperto alla comunità dei creativi di tutto il mondo.
Una giuria internazionale selezionerà 5 finalisti, che riceveranno fino a 10mila euro e avranno l'opportunità di essere supportati da esperti per sviluppare e applicare la propria idea. Potranno partecipare ad uno speciale Design Lab con progettisti di chiara fama, che li aiuteranno a sviluppare un prototipo o un business plan. Infine è prevista la realizzazione dell'idea grazie all'aiuto dei partner dell'iniziativa.
What Design Can Do (WDCD), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the IKEA Foundation invite designers, creative thinkers and imaginative trouble-shooters from all countries and disciplines, to take part. Refugees are actively encouraged to participate. After all, the extensive refugee community includes many creative professionals with first-hand experience of the problems at stake.
The What Design Can Do Refugee Challenge is a global design competition that calls on the creative community to come up with game-changing ideas for accommodating, connecting, integrating and helping the personal development of refugees. The challenge specifically focusses on refugees in urban areas, as nearly 60 per cent of the world's 20 million refugees now live in urban areas.
The call for ideas is open until 1 May 2016. An international jury will select five winners, who will receive up to 10,000 euros and expert support to develop their ideas into feasible plans, ready for implementation.

3 | What Design Can Do to maximize the potential of refugees
4 | What Design Can Do to bring refugees and host communities closer to one another
5 | What Design Can Do to exchange essential information with refugees
Participants can choose to answer to one or more of the specified briefs. They may propose new ideas or come up with existing concepts that require further refinement. A proactive attitude in collaborating with stakeholders (refugees/ asylum seekers, public authorities, NGOs, host communities, companies) during the ideation process is appreciated.
The call to participate in the WDCD Refugee Challenge will be open until 1 May 2016.
Through the challenge website whatdesigncando.com/challenge designers and creative minds from all disciplines will have access to loads of background information and inspiration. The same platform allows participants to upload their proposals, including a pitch video.
