IDAT Barcelona, Institute of Art, Design and Technology, is pleased to announce the 1st Interaction Design Contest, on the theme Building the Internet of Things.
The aim of the competition is to promote discussion and research through which to generate insights and visions, ideas and proposals that help us envisage what networked products and systems will be like in the 21st century, conforming the next generation Internet of Things. The competition is open to designers, architects, artists, tinkerers and thinkers who want to contribute to progress in making the world more habitable by developing a proposal capable of responding to emerging challenges in areas such as information technology, socialization, ecology, fabrication, collaboration and globalization, with a view to exploring a potential future of expanded connectivity.
The competition jury, which is composed of designers, architects, artists, technologists and sociologists is looking for outstanding proposals of applications of the Internet of Things. These applications might have different focus (social, cultural, political, economical, ecological) and might be of hybrid nature, incorporating the principles of the digital world into physical products, conforming systems and services interconnected through the Internet of Things.
The competition prizes will consist of three scholarships for IDATbcn Institute of Art Design and Technology, Master in Interaction Design for the year 2010-11, and a special prize which will provide technical and production support (including technical assistance and use of Fab Lab Bcn facilities) for the realization of a working prototype. Selected projects will go on show in a major exhibition about Interaction Design, due to open in Barcelona in June 2011 at DHUB Barcelona. The best projects will also be featured in a catalog to be published by Actar.
Registration is FREE, and the competition entries should be submitted digitally via the Internet www.interactiondesigncontest.com
