ARCHmedium lancia il nuovo concorso internazionale di architettura per studenti e giovani architetti Sydney Rehearsal Follies, con il quale, a distanza di sessant'anni dalla competizione che ha preceduto la realizzazione della Sydney Opera House, intende acquisire idee per la creazione di un nuovo padiglione dedicato alla musica che si integri con la famosissima Opera di Utzon e che accresca il valore dell'altrettanto noto scenario in cui si inserisce.
In un'area compresa tra gli alberi secolari del giardino botanico e l'imponente Opera House, il nuovo padiglione dovrebbe trovare una risposta al programma che vuole un nuovo centro prove e concerti capace di adattarsi al sito e di dialogare, senza allontanarsi dalla sua funzione di struttura dedicata alla musica, con lo spazio pubblico circostante.
Sydney is the largest and most populated city in Australia, as well as the cultural and musical capital of the country. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world; its diversity is reflected in the popular culture and in the expression of music. Nevertheless, the popular culture and the amateur music does not find its way out through the traditional channels being that the Opera agglutinates the most recognized and established works. In the other hand, the experimental works of the music conservatory stay in the edification without a clear diffusion among the citizens.
Sixty years later, in relation to the original competition, ARCHmedium proposes the creation of a new integrated pavilion dedicated to music and the scenic arts under the centennial trees of the Botanic Gardens park. The program establishes a series of independent follies for the rehearsal of students and young bands. At the same time, we propose a set of small rooms for musical and theatrical shows to introduce the new generations to the population. ARCHmedium calls for proposals that efficiently integrate into the set, making ties between both historic institutions and that add value to the emblematic whole. How does a building dedicated to music relate to the public spaces?
ELIGIBILITY
Competition is open to undergraduate students and young architects who graduated less than 10 years ago.
In both categories teams can be formed by just one member or up to six. It is not necessary that all members of a team are architecture specialists. Having a photographer, artist, philosopher, etc. on a team can help to see the project in a new way, thus enriching the final result.
REGISTRATION AND FEES
The entry periods will be divided as follows:
- Special Nov 25th - Jan 15th 60.50 €
- Early Jan 16th - Feb 12th 90.75 €
- Regular Feb 13th - Mar 12th 121 €

SUBMISSION
Submissions must be done through the ARCHmedium's intranet only no later than March 27th 2017. You must log in with your username and password and follow the upload process.

STUDENTS
- 1st prize: 2.500 €
- 2nd prize: 1.000 €
- 3rd prize: 500 €
- 10 Honorable mentions
YOUNG ARCHITECTS
- 1st prize: 2.000 €
- 3 Honorable mentions
The Young Architects prize will be awarded separately from the student prizes. Students won't opt to win this prize in the same way that young architects won't opt to win student prizes. The projects submitted by these two groups will be judged separately.
